The nation’s most prestigious high school rowing competition continues today on the Schuylkill

    More than 5,000 rowers from approximately 200 high schools from across North America are here in the city this weekend. They came to compete in the Stotesbury Cup Regatta, the oldest, largest, and most prestigious high school rowing competition in the country.

     

    The 31-event Stotesbury Cup Regatta began yesterday morning with qualifiers. The semi-finals and finals will happen today.

    The first race was held in 1927. West Catholic High School took home the silver trophy. Women didn’t begin rowing until 1974, but now, make up over 50 percent of the rowers.
