Teenager sworn in as council member hours after misdemeanor plea

Kyle Bower will probably always remember the date, Jan. 4, 2011.

It’s not his birthday, anniversary or graduation. Instead, it was the day the 19-year-old pleaded guilty to misdemeanor charges and was then sworn in as a borough council member.
The Alburtis, Pa., teen was sentenced to probation, the Associated Press reports, after pleading guilty to throwing a brick through his ex-girlfriend’s window and slipping out of his handcuffs in an alcohol-related arrest.

Bowers told the judge he’ stopped drinking and is pursuing a GED, though he still faces other charges in Berks County.
