Sussex County welcomes “Big Mo”

It’s 66 feet long and weighs nearly 120 tons… a 16-inch barrel from the U.S.S. Missouri arrives in Sussex County today to be placed at its  permanent home.

A celebration begins at 2:00 p.m. on the Georgetown Circle, which includes first-hand accounts from speakers who were in Tokyo Bay when the Japanese surrendered to the Allies in September 1945.  World war II-era aircraft will fly over the event, which includes a parade of veterans around The Circle and along Market Street.  The barrel will be on permanent display at Fort Miles along the Delaware coast.  You can follow events at Facebook.
