Statements by Corbett nominee not corroborated by colleagues

Gary Alexander says changes he made to Rhode Island’s health-care policy saved the state $100 million in 18 months. But Rhode Island Gov. Lincoln Chafee says that number may be bogus.

Alexander is Pa. Gov. Tom Corbett’s nominee for public welfare secretary.

According to an Associated Press report, Alexander’s claims about his money-saving program under former Rhode Island Gov. Don Carcieri are unfounded. A spokesman for Chafee said the governor doesn’t know where that figure came from, but doesn’t have another to give.
