Serious crash closes stretch of Route 539 in Ocean County

A stretch of Route 539 in Ocean County is closed this afternoon due to a serious crash.
The Ocean County Sheriff’s Department says the roadway is closed for an investigation between Harry Wright Boulevard in Manchester and Route 72 in Barnegat.
The crash is near the roadway’s intersection with Route 72, according to emergency radio transmissions.
An aeromedical helicopter was responding to a nearby landing zone around 2:15 p.m.
A hazardous materials unit was dispatched for a fuel leak.
