‘Seek-and-find’ along the trails of the Wissahickon

If your little ones are a wee bit small to be blazing a new trail for the Friends of the Wissahickon, they can still fall in love with the park. Lace up, bundle up and head out to the start of Forbidden Drive for your very own seek-and-find adventure.This seek-and-find was created by my daughters. It’s meant to be a high-success activity, so they chose very findable spots along the trail. To participate, you can print out this story, or “take a screen” with you to see if your kids can match up the pictures with your discoveries. (Hint: there will be different colored leaves and less of them when you go!)
My helpers also had lots of fun simply photographing nature and finding things they thought stood out enough for others to find.
This seek-and-find starts at the top of Forbidden Drive off of Northwestern Ave. and ends at the Covered Bridge. It’s a decent walk, over two miles round trip, so it’s best for kids five and older (or those able to hop into a stroller if they get tired).
OK, ready? Set? Go!
1. As you enter the main trail, can you spot this hut?
Good! See? That was easy. We highly recommend that you explore, hang out, run around and pretend it’s your house.
2. I spy with my little eye an arc over the water and small little steps that let you walk on water! (Hint: step off the main trail and head down by the water.)
3. One bench, two plaques. Can you find them? Sit side-by-side and enjoy the view of the water.
4. Investigate the huge climbing rocks.
5. This one is easy. Take a selfie with the sign!
6. Stop for a snack break. Don’t forget — leave no trace.
7. Check out the trail map and see how far you have come. 
8. This was deemed a secret tunnel for foxes..
9. Trip-trap-trip-trap your way across the covered bridge.

If you walk about another half-mile down the trail, you can spot the Indian Statue. If you get there, take a picture and send it our way.
