School District outlines phase 3 of budget cuts

School District of Philadelphia Superintendent Arlene Ackerman sent an email to the district today with some details of Phase 3 of the budget. Phases 1 and 2 were recapped.

NewsWorks partner the Public School Notebook obtained the email, which listed the following cuts and then some:

reduce central office operating budgets by 50 percent
reduce core programs and strategic initiatives (Gifted & Talented, Music, Art)
    renegotiate contract with unions
    reduce special education liaisons

The cuts are steps to close what’s now a $629 million gap.
