Savage for Council campaign heads to court over anti-Savage fliers

Update: The Committee of Seventy reports the removal order was granted and the fliers must come down.

Original report: As voters lined up (or trickled in, given the projected low turnout) today for the 7th Councilmanic District primary election, members of the Savage for Council campaign headed to court.

The campaign is seeking an emergency injuction to stop what it says are defamatory fliers [pdf] being distributed by supporters of his opponent, incumbent Maria Quinones-Sanchez.

Savage’s campaign wants the existing fliers taken down and brought to Election Court. Court documents argue the fliers are illegal because there is no information on them about who distributed and paid for them.

The fliers read: “DANNY SAVAGE TRIED TO PUT A METHADONE CLINIC HOUSING 200 IN-PATIENT AND 400 OUT PATIENT IN OUR NEIGHBORHOOD EVEN THOUGH WE DID NOT WANT ONE. PLEASE DO NOT PUSH HIS BOTTON [SIC] IF YOU DO HE JUST MIGHT TRY TO DO IT AGAIN.”
