A salute to Labor Day with patriotic lighting

The Center City District (CCD) will join the late-summer homage to the nation’s 153 million workers by casting a patriotic red, white and blue glow on a dozen historic buildings along the Avenue of the Arts.

While these facades are attractively lit all year long with seasonal colors, on Monday, September 5, the lights will hail America’s labor force. Across Center City, from the Cira Centre on the banks of the Schuylkill to the Benjamin Franklin Bridge spanning the Delaware River, some of the city’s most recognizable buildings, One Liberty Place, Two Liberty Place and Symphony House, will reflect the tri-color tribute.

Also, PECO’s Crown Lights will be sending out an animated “Happy Labor Day” message.

“With the unofficial end of summer, many people will be taking advantage of Labor Day – and night – activities in Center City,” said Paul R. Levy, president and CEO of the Center City District.  “As people enjoy downtown, its buildings will glow with patriotic colors to honor our nation’s  laborers.”

Many of the participating buildings use color-changing LED lighting, due to its energy efficiency, long life, its effectiveness in highlighting distinctive architectural details and its ability to provide programmable light shows for holidays and citywide celebrations at a much lower cost.

Participating building managers/property owners include: American Real Estate Partners; Brandywine Realty Trust; Cushman & Wakefield of Pennsylvania, Inc.; Delaware River Port Authority; Dranoff Properties;  PECO; and the Center City District.
