Salmonella outbreak likely linked to ground turkey

Seventy-six people in 26 state have gotten sick with salmonella poisoning the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention believe is linked to ground turkey. The strain of salmonella is resistant to many antibiotics.

The CDC has not released the name of the meat producer and has not issued a recall, but has published details about the dates and types of illnesses reported. One person has died, but further information on that case has not been released, either.

The Associated Press reports the illnesses began in March, and since then, cultures of the meat from four retail locations have showed contamination. Those retailers have not been named, but five illnesses have been reported in Pennsylvania.
