Road closures limit Center City-area access leading up to Parkway concert
Construction began last week and road closures are underway for this weekend’s “Made in America” concert on the Ben Franklin Parkway.
Multiple acts will perform at the two-day, three-stage concert, and with the big event come widespread street closures.
Closures began as early as Tuesday along parts of the Parkway and in Fairmount, and will continue right up until the concert begins Saturday. Roads will re-open Monday after the concert. The city’s Office of Emergency Management has created a map highlighting the road closures and restrictions.
The closures are just one point of contention surrounding the concert, which will close off a public space to accommodate ticket-holders. All of Eakins Oval and parts of Kelly and MLK drives will be closed around the Art Museum area. The Parkway will be shut down west of 20th Street, and several blocks to the north will also be closed.
The city announced the Jay-Z-led event in May.
