Right NEast/Wrong NEast: CBS attributes Wissinoming animal cruelty case to Mayfair
Nearly two dozen animals were removed from a Wissinoming home last week and their owners were charged with animal cruelty.
It’s not a headline anyone wants to see, but CBS3 added insult to injury when it mis-reported the neighborhood. Though the 4300-block of Benner Street is blocks below the official Wissinoming/Mayfair border of Robbins Street, and off the beaten path of Frankford Avenue that the Mayfair Civic Association lays claim to, the station seemingly didn’t bother to properly identify the location, letting Mayfair take the fall.
But someone is sticking up for Mayfair. Commenters on the CBS story discussed and pointed out the error. We should at least give credit to the station for not slyly removing the Mayfair references and pretending the error was never made.
Outside media don’t care about the Northeast. We have all seen them misuse, misspell and mistake our neighborhoods and our streets, so we at NEast Philly wanted to do something about it. When they get it wrong, we set it right in a segment we like to call Right NEast/Wrong NEast.
