Right NEast/Wrong NEast: Lawncrest still confusing people

Maybe it’s because Lawncrest is really two separate neighborhoods. Or maybe it’s because our local TV news reporters have never actually been to Lawncrest (except when there were some dog fighting arrests).

Whatever the case, the Lawncrest, Summerdale and Oxford Circle neighborhoods seem to present a real problem for Philadelphia’s mainstream media — geography-wise, that is.

A shooting last week on the 5200-block of Roosevelt Boulevard happened in Lawncrest, according to CBS3. The suspects were apprehended on the 1200-block of Cheltenham Avenue. See for yourself on this map.

The first location is just blocks from where the Summerdale Civic Association meets. The second is directly behind the Oxford Circle. But CBS would first have to know those things to know neither of those locations are in Lawncrest.

Just to be clear, Lawncrest residents, there was no shooting in your neighborhood Thursday.

Outside media don’t care about the Northeast. We have all seen them misuse, misspell and mistake our neighborhoods and our streets, so we at NEast Philly wanted to do something about it. When they get it wrong, we set it right in a segment we like to call Right NEast/Wrong NEast.
