Philadelphia Federation of Teachers to sue over layoffs

Update: Philadelphia Federation of Teachers President Jerry Jordan confirmed with the Inquirer’s Kristen Graham that the PFT has filed a suit over the District’s teacher layoffs.

This comes after NewsWorks partner the Public School Notebook reported on Jordan’s remarks after Sunday’s Education Nation Experience, during which he said he won’t allow the District to reopen teacher contracts.

Original report: Action News reported earlier today that the Philadelphia School District will lay off 3,800 school personnel, including 1,100 teachers within the next year and 2,700 other employees. WHYY reporters Tom MacDonald and Lizz Fiedler will be reporting later for us on school district and teacher layoffs.
