Rendell endorses Republican Al Schmidt for City Commissioner

Former Philadelphia Mayor and Pa. Gov. Ed Rendell is breaking his party lines and has endorsed Republican Al Schmidt for City Commissioner.

There’s got to be a Republican commissioner working alongside the Democrat, and Rendell has given his endorsement to newcomer Schmidt (he ran for Controller in the last election) instead of incumbent Joe Duda.

Rendell has already endorsed Stephanie Singer for the Democratic position.

Schmidt, as you might have heard recently on Radio Times, is being championed by the Loyal Opposition, a group challenging Philadelphia’s Republican party hierarcy. Walk past the party headquarters on Fourth Street off Lombard, and the windows are plastered with “Schmidt Happens” posters.
