Prosecutor: Barnegat contractor never finished Sandy-related work after taking nearly $100k

A Barnegat contractor is facing charges for allegedly failing to complete Sandy-related work after receiving nearly $100,000 from a homeowner, authorities said.

The Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office charged Greg Montgomery, 36, owner of GS Construction and Property Maintenance, last week with second degree theft by failure to make required disposition, Ocean County Prosecutor Joseph D. Coronato announced.

Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Financial Crimes Unit detectives began investigating Montgomery after receiving correspondence from a victim, who alleges that the contractor failed to complete lifting and renovating a home, according to the prosecutor.

Montgomery allegedly received approximately $92,000 in payments between October 2013 and April 2014, Coronato said.

After his arrest, Montgomery was lodged in the Ocean County Jail in Toms River in lieu of $35,000 bail.

Authorities ask that any Ocean County residents that have paid for work not completed by GS Construction and Property Maintenance to contact Det. Brad Frank at (732) 929-2027.
