Private Pa. high school gets $30 million donation

A Quaker high school in Newtown has received a $30 million gift from the estate of an alumna who had previously donated more than $128 million.

The private George School in Newtown announced on Wednesday the bequest from Barbara Dodd Anderson, who graduated in 1950.

Nancy Starmer, head of the school,  says the funds will help pay for new athletic facilities and increased salaries for faculty and staff.

In 2007, Anderson pledged $128.5 million to the George School in a gesture she said was inspired by Buffett’s own philanthropy. Anderson died in November at her home in Fresno, Calif. She was 78.
