University of Sciences head announces retirement

    The president of the University of the Sciences is retiring after 16 years in the post.

    Philip Gerbino has spent 44 years at the Philadelphia school. The school said in a statement that he is retiring at the end of August.

    He graduated in 1969 with a pharmacy degree from the school, then known as the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy and Science. Then Gerbino worked as a teacher and administrator before becoming president in 1995.

    During his tenure, the 3,000-student school became a university. It has programs in areas including pre-med, physical therapy to health care business and health policy.
