President declares Pa. a disaster area, federal aid now available

President Obama today declared Pennsylvania a disaster area, ordering federal aid be made available to help with local recovery efforts in areas hit by Tropical Storm Lee earlier this month.

The Mercury reports the action will make funding available to residents in 19 Pennsylvania counties, including Lancaster and York.

The assistance can include grants for temporary housing and home repairs along with low-cost loans, according to The Mercury.

Heavy rain and flooding from Lee made its way through the area as early as September 3.  Many communities hit by the storms are only just beginning to survey damage.
