If you smell what appears to be a fire in the Manalapan Township area today, don’t worry; there’s no emergency.

The New Jersey Forest Fire Service Section B10 will conduct a prescribed burn beginning at noon in Monmouth Battlefield State Park, according to a release. Large smoke columns will be visible in the area throughout the day.

A prescribed burn is a fire prevention technique that “safely [reduces] excessive amounts of brush, shrubs, and trees,” according to smokeybear.com.
