Prayer-death couple gets 10 years’ probation, must take kids to doctor

Herbert and Catherine Schaible have been sentenced to 10 years’ probation for the death of their toddler after they prayed for his recovery instead of seeking medical treatment. A judge announced the sentencing today.

The Philadelphia couple was convicted in December of involuntary manslaughter and child endangerment after their 2-year-old died in January 2009.

Aside from the probation, the judge has ordered the couple to take their other children for necessary medical exams, the Associated Press reports.
