PPD hosts gun buyback event today in South Philadelphia

Chances are, you didn’t win the Mega Millions. But filling the fridge this morning just got a little easier, nonetheless. Today, March 31, from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. in South Philadelphia, the Philadelphia Police Department is hosting a guns for groceries buyback event.

Round up all the unwanted guns in the house: the one that’s stashed under the bed or up in the closet, and bring them down to the Northeast Corner of Broad Street and Washington Avenue. Members of the 3rd Police District, Swat Unit, South Detectives and the Evidence Unit will be there to collect them.

Browns Shoprites and the Philadelphia Safety Net have also teamed up for this “Gun Buy Back” event, trading each gun for a $100 food voucher to a Brown’s Shoprite supermarket.

According to an article on CBS Philly, community members have been asked to put the guns in a brown paper bag and before dropping them off.
