Postal Service stamp commemorates Battle of Gettysburg
The U.S. Postal Service is issuing a special stamp commemorating the 150th anniversary of the Battle of Gettysburg.
The stamps will first be issued at a ceremony at Gettysburg National Military Park on Thursday, a day before they are scheduled to go on sale across the rest of the country.The stamp depicts a painted image of a chaotic battlefield, with smoke rising from fired rifles.
The three-day battle in July 1863 was the largest of the Civil War. It is considered the war’s pivotal moment after Northern forces turned away a Confederate advance.
The Postal Service has been commemorating the 150th anniversary of the Civil War with a series of stamps. A stamp commemorating the Battle of Vicksburg will also be released next week in Mississippi.
