Political writer takes aim at city with alternative marketing message

When Morning Edition host Jo Ann Allen was blogging for us, she called Philadelphia’s “With Love, Philly XOXO” marketing campaign cutesy.

That’s not exactly Aaron Proctor perceives the campaign, desgined by the Greater Philadelphia Tourism Marketing Corporation. The word “stupid” may have been tossed around.

The political writer created an alternative “With Love” campaign to say the city cares more about tourists than it does about its residents. The soda tax, school district budget mess and business tax take center stage, and right in the middle you’ll hear this line addressing tax payers: “Our mayor hates businesses and hates you.”

Check out the video for yourself (be warned of some harsh language toward the end) and weigh in: Is Philadelphia focusing too much on its tourists?
