Police shoot West Oak Lane man blocks from Jazz Festival site

As organizers put the finishing touches on the West Oak Lane jazz Festival this morning, shots rang out just blocks away.

In an incident that appears unrelated to the festival, police shot and killed a man on the 7900-block of Rugby Street.

As Patrick Cobbs reports for NewsWorks, the man was shot around 10:30 this morning when 14th District officers responded to a domestic dispute call at a home.

Officer Tanya Little had this to say, but noted the information police have gathered so far is preliminary: “Sounds like someone else other than the person involved in the domestic came to the location and they had a weapon and did not obey police commands.”
