Police: Man caught with hundreds of heroin bags in Ocean County Mall

    A 22-year-old Manchester man is in custody after an investigation into drug dealing at the Ocean County Mall in Toms River, police said.

    Members of the Toms River Police Department’s Special Enforcement Team (SET) conducted surveillance at the mall at 4 p.m. Wednesday after receiving information from citizen tips, according to a release from the department.

    The investigation led to the arrest of Jay Taylor, of the 1000 block of 6th Avenue in Manchester, near the bathroom facilities in the mall, police said.

    Taylor was found with 309 bags of heroin and $4,853 in US currency, according to police. Both were seized.

    The Manchester man was charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance (heroin) and with possession with the attempt to distribute a controlled dangerous substance (heroin). Taylor, whose bail was set at $30,000 with no 10% option, was lodged in the Ocean County Jail in Toms River.

    Taylor also had a no bail arrest warrant from Ocean County for violating the terms of his previous drug court agreement, police said.
