A man attempted to lure a child with candy earlier this week in Brick, police say.

A 9-year-old girl was exiting a school bus on Greenwood Loop Road Tuesday when a man standing near a dumpster reportedly said, “Hey little girl, come here. I have candy for you,” according to a release from the Brick Township Police Department.

The child, who immediately fled the scene and ran home, heard the man yell, “Hey little girl, come back here,” Sgt. Neal Pedersen said in the release.

Responding police checked the area but could not locate the man.

Police describe the man as in his late 40s with thinning light brown hair that was combed back and some type of mark or tattoo on one of his hands. He was wearing jeans and a dark colored sweatshirt.

“Parents are reminded to speak with their children about the dangers of talking to strangers and to immediately contact the police if they observe anything suspicious,” Pedersen said.

Anyone who possibly saw the man should call Brick police at 732-262-1100.
