Philly District Attorney employees win fraud award for investigating dental scam

Assistant District Attorney Vicki Markovitz and Detective Karl Supperer of the District Attorney’s Insurance Fraud Unit in Philadelphia have won the 2012 Fraud Fighter Award.

You might not recognize their names, but you should be familiar with the headline-making scam they busted. Markovitz and Supperer investigated and arrested Dr. Owen Rogal and Kim Rogal, a father-daughter team who billed insurance companies for more than $5 million in fraudulent claims.

The award comes from the Insurance Fraud Authority and the International Association of Special Investigative Units.

Rogal, a dentist, was arrested with his daughter in January. They were charged with billing for a different kind of surgery than they performed at their pain clinic.
