Philly City Council staffer charged with stealing from elderly woman

Nancy Gonzalez, a Philadelphia City Council staffer, has been arrested for allegedly stealing from an elderly woman under her care.

CBS3 reports Gonzalez will appear in court next week on the charges, which comes two month after the Daily News reported on an investigation into Gonzalez and 88-year-old Iris Galarza’s well-being.
That report detailed Galarza’s deteriorating living conditions. Gonzalez, the secretary for the Council president, had been collecting Galarza’s Social Security checks to help pay the elderly woman’s living expenses, and has said Galarza’s living conditions are the result of her own habits. Gonzalez is accused of stealing the woman’s checks.

The DN reports Gonzales has no access to city finances.
