A major highway project through Center City Philadelphia is moving toward an end-of-the-month milestone.

Rebuilding seven structurally deficient bridges over Interstate 676 though Philadelphia is a multi-year project, but Bob Kent of Pennsylvania’s Department of Transportation said three of those spans should be completed by end of June.

“The new 19th Street bridge was reopened in the spring,” said, while one in the vicinity of Philadelphia Family Court and another near the Free Library of Philadelphia are expected to be finished before July.

The 18th Street bridge is the last one slated for reconstruction.

“Crews will be working overnight on that bridge.  Overnight closures will be in effect for a month, maybe longer,” Kent said. “These overnight closures are identical to closures we have used in 2015 and 2016 to perform similar work.”

The entire project is expected to be finished in 2018 — a year ahead of schedule.
