April 10 has been designated Philly Spring Cleanup Day by the city. The announcement of the event was made on the 2500 block of Gordon Street in Fishtown, which has been designated the cleanest block in the city.

Cathy Berry is block captain. She says teamwork leads to great results.

    Berry:
You have to be a family. You have to stick together. You have to get over the little differences, stick together, treat each other like family. Somebody plants a flower, I guarantee you the next summer two people will, and the following summer the whole block will.

The theme of this year’s event is “Keep the Sweep Up,” and city officials hope it will touch off a wave of neighborhood pride that will make the city a cleaner place for everyone.
