Newspapers want courts to unseal abortion case

Several newspapers are seeking to open a sealed state Supreme Court case regarding abortion.

The Morning Call of Allentown, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, The Philadelphia Inquirer, the Philadelphia Daily News and the Pennsylvania Newspaper Association want the case opened to examine the judges’ interpretations of the law.

The case involves a minor who was denied permission for an abortion by an Allegheny County judge.

State law allows a minor to seek a judge’s permission if she can’t get it from her parents.
