Penns Grove fined, agrees to put second exit in borough courtroom

Penns Grove Mayor John Washington says the reason the borough’s courtroom has only one exit is all a simple misunderstanding.

After being fined $13,000 for being non-compliant with fire codes, the South Jersey courtroom will finally get a second exit. According to Today’s Sunbeam, the borough put off the request for years, assuming it had been grandfathered into the law that requires multiple exits for safety reasons.

Specifically, if there were to be a fire around the only current exit, everyone in the courtroom would be trapped. Now that’s a headline you don’t want to see in your local newspaper.
