PennDOT ready for snow fighting operation

Listen

PennDOT officials say they are ready to handle the snow Mother Nature is preparing to dump on our region.

With a blizzard packing a foot or more of snow in the forecast, PennDOT began preparations early in the week, tuning up their plows and preparing other equipment, said spokesman Gene Blaum.

“On Thursday,  work began to spray interstate highways and other key routes with the salt-brining solution to get that residual layer of salt on the dry pavement,” he said. “The chemical reaction will start and help prevent the snow from bonding immediately to the pavement.”

Once there is significant snow on the ground, the plowing will commence.

“We will have approximately 450 PennDOT and contractor trucks on the highways in the five county Philadelphia region.”

Drivers are urged to give trucks and plows plenty of room to do their job.
