Animal Planet will pull back the curtain on the stresses and success of students enrolled in veterinarian programs. “Life at Vet U” begins Saturday and focuses specifically on fourth-year students at the University of Pennsylvania’s vet school.

Dr. Rebecca Bernstein, one of the doctors in training in the premiere episode, joined NewsWorks Tonight’s Dave Heller to discuss animal academics.

Match Day, when graduates who opt for an additional year of learning discover their placement, features heavily in the show’s first episode. Bernstein explains why the day can be nerve-wracking for applicants.

“Once you hit submit, it’s set in stone. You can’t change it,” she said. “And once you find out where you’ve been matched, it’s binding.”
