Pedestrian suffers serious injuries in Brick hit-and-run

    A motorist struck a pedestrian on Hooper Avenue in Brick and fled the scene, leaving a Brick man with serious injuries, police said. 

    A 35-year-old Hispanic man was crossing Hooper Avenue near Outback Steakhouse when he was struck by a vehicle heading southbound in the right lane about 600 feet south of Brick Boulevard at 7:45 p.m. Monday, said Brick Township Police Department Sgt. David Bedrosian in a release. 

    The vehicle, described by witnesses as a dark colored sedan, continued south on Hooper Avenue, Bedrosian said, adding that it may have damage to the right front fender and possibly the hood area. 

    The pedestrian, who suffered head trauma and internal injuries, was transported to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune, where he remains hospitalized, according to Bedrosian. Police are withholding his name pending family notification.

    The Brick Township Police Department’s Emergency Medical Services unit and MONOC Paramedics responded to the scene, along with numerous township police officers.

    The crash remains under investigation.
