PECO begins new 10-year utility pole inspection cycle

PECO announced today it will begin another 10-year cycle of utility pole inspections to the tune of $1.1 million.  The energy company will use an independent contractor for the work, which calls for the inspection of 39,000 poles a year.

The Business Journal reports inspectors will visually evaluate the poles and their attached equipment, take samples from within the poles and check for decay around their bases.

Poles will be repaired or replaced as needed. Last year wrapped a 10-year cycle, in which all 387,000 poles in the area are inspected.
