Planning Commissioners voted Tuesday to support a zoning bill that would allow a mixed use commercial development to be built at the Sheet Metal Workers union property at Columbus Boulevard and Reed Streets, on the Delaware River.
City Planner Martin Gregorski said there is no specific proposal yet, but staff recommended the commission support zoning bill 120879 because staff had wanted to remap this and other nearby properties to CMX-3, anyway. The bill that would change this property’s designation from industrial and port industrial was introduced Nov. 1 by First District Councilman Mark Squilla.
Gregorski noted that since the property is within the Central Delaware, any plan for developing it would come back for Planning Commission review.
PCPC Chairman Alan Greenberger, who also sits on the Delaware River Waterfront Corporation Board, noted that the suggested designation would fit in with the vision for future development outlined in the city’s Master Plan for the Central Delaware, which the PCPC adopted.
