Pair of holiday events will raise food donations for the less fortunate

Two events in New Castle County tonight will bring in donations of food for Delaware children and families in need.

The Delaware KIDS Fund holiday food drive takes place at the James Street Tavern on Route 4 in Newport from 5:30 p.m. until 10:30 p.m.  Guests are asked to bring donations of canned goods or other non-perishable foods, or in lieu of that a $5 cover charge.  Either is redeemable for one complimentary drink and snacks.  Phillies pitcher Vance Worley will be on hand from 6:30 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. to sign autographs and pose for photos.  A silent auction will also be held.  Proceeds and donations will benefit hungry children in need and local food banks and pantries.

The Delaware National Guard hosts its annual holiday concert tonight at 7:00 p.m. at the Grand Opera House on Market Street in downtown Wilmington.  The 287th Army Band will perform.  Admission is free.  The Guard is collecting non-perishable food items at the event to support its “War on Hunger.”
