One year in the making: Race Street Connector open for business

This week marked the opening of the Race Street Connector, an area in Philadelphia that until now, remained a dark portion of Race Street.

PlanPhilly reports the once blank space has now become a work of art, and more importantly, reinforces the connection between Old City and the waterfront.

PlanPhilly says the linkage is a big piece of the city’s long-term vision for the Central Delaware Waterfront.

The newly designed space features mounted metal mesh to give the area an industrial feel, with soft lights and slow changing colors.

Money for the project came from the William Penn Foundation, the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society and the city, according to PlanPhilly.
