Officer under investigation for bar safe theft

Police and the District Attorney have reviewed a videotape that shows three Philadelphia police officers getting too comfortable after hours this week at a neighborhood bar in the Northeast. The investigation of the incident centers on just one of the men.

The three officers went into Pat’s Pub through an open basement door after an investigation into a possible break-in at a nearby business was unfounded.  Commissioner Charles Ramsey says the video apparently shows one of the three officers taking money from the bar’s safe.

“The one officer who was observed going into what appeared to be the safe on the tape continues to be a target of an internal investigation as well as his actions being reviewed by the District Attorney,” Ramsey says.

The other two officers were seen pouring themselves a soda from a bar fountain.

Ramsey says any corruption will not be tolerated.  All three officers are on desk duty but he expects to return two of the officers to their street assignments soon.  As for the third, Ramsey says the District Attorney will have to decide if charges will be filed in the case.
