No charges for Hatboro councilman who shot suspect
Prosecutors in suburban Philadelphia say no charges will be filed against a witness who shot a fleeing bank robbery suspect.
Authorities in Montgomery County said a man entered the TD Bank in Hatboro on July 8 and demanded money, fleeing with an undisclosed amount.
Police said a dye pack exploded as he left. Witness and Hatboro Councilman George Forgeng was carrying a licensed firearm and pursued him for about a quarter of a mile to a business center parking lot.
Investigators said Forgeng told the man repeatedly to get on the ground and fired when the suspect “advanced at him,” hitting him in the shoulder, palm and forearm.
District Attorney Risa Vetri Ferman said the witness was justified in firing in self-defense and the wounds indicate that he wasn’t trying to kill the suspect.
