N.J. judo fighter Nick Delpopolo expelled from Olympics for positive test for marijuana

An Olympic judo fighter from New Jersey has been suspended for doping after a drug test found marijuana in his system.

Nick Delpopolo, of Westfield, says he unintentionally ate something baked with marijuana before the Olympics began.
In a statement, he has apologized to the Olympic Committee, his teammates and fans and said he was embarrassed by this mistake.

He’s the first Olympian out of more than 10,000 in the London Games to fail an in-competition doping test.

The 23-year-old Delpopolo finished 7th in the 73-kilogram class.
