N.J. Environmental Federation sours on Gov. Christie

The only environmental group that endorsed New Jersey Governor Chris Christie in his 2009 election campaign is now giving him poor grades on environmental issues.

The New Jersey Environmental Federation’s first report card on Christie’s environmental record gives him a “D.”

Board member Sharon Finlayson says Christie has not lived up to his promises.

“Candidate Christie really convinced us, conveyed to us, his interest in environmental progress and wanting to do the right thing. He appeared to be dedicated to a vigorous environmental agenda. He told us to trust him and we have lost that trust at least at this point in time,” said Finlayson.

The Environmental Federation is critical of Christie for withdrawing from the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative and claims he has not done enough to protect the Garden State’s waterways.

It’s hoping the report will convince the governor to do more to protect the environment.
