N.J. committee examines casino gaming at Meadowlands

Members of a New Jersey Assembly committee plan to examine the prospect of casino gaming at the Meadowlands.

The Regulatory Oversight and Gaming Committee will hold a hearing at the Meadowlands Racetrack Thursday.
Gov. Chris Christie and state Senate President Stephen Sweeney have opposed the idea. They want to give a revitalization plan time to turn around the fortunes of Atlantic City’s slumping casinos.

Those who support the idea say gaming at the Meadowlands could strengthen New Jersey against competition from nearby states.
