New Jersey scientists honored for developing diabetes drug

It’s the work of Merck scientists Ann Weber and Nancy Thornberry that helped create an oral medication for Type II diabetes with a reduced risk of side effects.

The Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America will honor the scientists this week.

WHYY’s Taunya English talked to the women about their method of development and how they fast-tracked Januvia to bring to pharmacies. They’ll receive the Discoverers Award April 14.
