New Jersey lost 11,000 public and private sector jobs in September

New Jersey was down 11,000 jobs last month, with the public and private sectors each shedding more than 5,000 positions.

The state Department of Labor released figures today showing unemployment decreased last month — the second straight month of net job loss — to just under 3.9 million jobs.

According to the Associated Press, the state lost 2,500 jobs in August, and Hurricane Irene and Tropical Storm Lee are among the reasons jobs are still hard to come by.

WHYY’s Phil Gregory will have more numbers and details for us later.
