New Jersey inspection workers protest closing of state inspection stations

New Jersey inspection workers gathered today outside the Delanco inspection center in Burlington County to protest the state’s plan to close it and two other centers.

Kevin Brown, New Jersey state director for 32BJ Service Employees International Union, said the closings of the free centers would create more air pollution and pose a financial hardship to motorists.Delanco, Westfield and Bridgeton centers face closures on May 1. SEIU and State Sen. Diane Allen said the closings would create more emissions by forcing motorists to drive farther to other state centers or pay more for private inspections.
