New Jersey fugitive who helped hijack plane captured in Portugal

A man who investigators say escaped from a New Jersey prison and hijacked a plane from Detroit has been captured, more than 30 years later.

NBC 10 reports George Wright was tracked by investigators in New Jersey and with the FBI outside of Lisbon, where he was arrested by Portuguese officials Monday.

NBC 10 says in the 1970’s, Wright was in a prison serving a 30-year sentence for the 1962 robbing and killing of a war hero.

According to the report, Wright and two others escaped from a Leesburg, New Jersey correctional facility.
