New Castle mayor-elect injured in car accident just before swear-in

Donald Reese will not be sworn in today at New Castle, Del., mayor, as he’s tending to his injuries after a car accident.

The ceremony for Reese will be rescheduled, as he and his wife were involved in a multi-vehicle accident yesterday afternoon.

The Wilmington News Journal reports Reese and his wife sustained injuries in the crash at Wilmington Road near Merit Drive, but few other details about the accident are available.

Reese and his wife are both “doing well,” according to a statement released by the family. The eight-term councilman defeated incumbent Mayor John F. Klingmeyer in the April 9 election. Klingmeyer was seeking a 20th term.
